JESUS LEADERSHIP: part 5 - DEVELOPING DISCIPLES

Matthew 4:20 - 22
20 And they straightway left their nets and followed him.
21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.

The Three Stages of Making a Disciple are:

1. Giving Information
2. Sharing Revelation
3. Creating Formation

I. GIVING

= GOOD NEWS

Gospel means good news.
The primary information that a new disciple needs to get is the good news.
WHAT IS THE GOOD NEWS?

• That Jesus came to give them Soteria (Greek for “salvation”).

Soteria means -

• salvation
• healing
• prosperity
• deliverance
• no lack

As a leader, you need to find out what the new disciple’s BAD NEWS is and give them the GOOD NEWS!
SOMETIMES WE DON’T TAKE THE TIME TO KNOW SOMEONE ENOUGH TO ASK THEIR BAD NEWS.

Romans 10:14 - 18
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

“OUR REPORT”

• Is the INFORMATION that you give about the Gospel that is contrary to their previously held information…
• Not EVERYONE is going to hear your report.
• Your goal is NOT TO CONVINCE everyone to believe.
• YOUR GOAL is to give everyone the information…
  if they follow, if they believe, that’s on them.

THEIR SOUND - the preachers (You and me).
TO SHARE THE GOOD NEWS… to anyone’s bad news…

II. SHARING

Revelation is when information becomes personal and moves from the heart to the head.

HEART = God has good news for me. He wants to help me. He wants to heal me…

HEAD = How is this going to work? How do we walk it out…

1 Corinthians 2:10
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

When God shares something that explodes in your mind… it’s NOT JUST FOR YOU!

GOD SHARES REVELATION WITH US IN 3 PRIMARY WAYS:
The HOLY SPIRIT:

• Speaks
• Moves
• Shares with us

Romans 9:1
1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

INNER WITNESS WILL TELL YOU -

• Who you should be dating
• When you should take the next new job God will want to give you
• How to solve any problems you may be having in school or at work
• How to handle a problem or roadblock that may have occurred in your marriage
• How to handle all of the problems that will occur if you have just lost your job
• When to move in on someone to witness to them

THE WORD OF GOD
The Holy Spirit will REVEAL to you specifics from Scripture you did not see before.
THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER READ SCRIPTURE like a task… but as receiving everything… every word… every phrase…

2 Timothy 3:16
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

The People God sent in your life
One of the greatest opportunities we have as leaders is to share the depth of God’s Word, the depth of understanding that we have with those God has placed under us.

INFORMATION - You can get from the Internet.
REVELATION - You can get from the Holy Spirit.

FORMATION you cannot get formation without interaction with another believer.

FORMATION IS WHEN PRACTICAL, NATURAL THINGS ARE TAUGHT AND INSTRUCTED.
The formation stage includes teaching natural things such as punctuality, teachability, honesty, and accountability.

A LEADER IS CALLED TO

, but never in a way that is

19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

Being a leader does not give you a pass to offend.

Matthew 18:6
6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Romans 12:18
18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
