MIRACLES ARE MESSY

THE MIRACLE OF A THANKFUL HEART AND THE MIRACLE OF BEING MADE WHOLE

11  Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
12  Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off.
13  And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
14  So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.
15  And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God,
16  and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.
17  So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?” —Luke 17:11 - 17

1. I am so thankful that the heart of God is to be accessible to everyone.

Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. —Luke 17:11

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,  full of grace and truth. —John 14:11

15  For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16  Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. —Hebrews 4:15 - 16

For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” —Romans 10:13

2. I am so thankful that the facts of religion can’t keep us from the truth of His love.

Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. —Luke 17:12

18  “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19  To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
20  Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him.
21  And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” —Luke 4:18 - 21

3. I am so thankful that when Jesus hears me cry out, He looks at me and sees “me.”

13  And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
14  So when He saw them, —Luke 17:13 - 14a

The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit. —Psalms 34:18

Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it. —Luke 19:41

But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. —Matthew 9:36

4  I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.
5  They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed.
6  This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
7  The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.
8  Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! —Psalms 34:4 - 8

4. I am so thankful that my only part in my miracle is obedience.

So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. —Luke 17:14

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. —Hebrews 11:6

If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself. —2 Timothy 2:13

20  But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
21  Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?
22  Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?
23  And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. —James 2:20 - 23

5. A thankful heart will bring you to the feet of Jesus daily.

15  And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God,
16  and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. —Luke 17:15 - 16

1 Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord!
2 Blessed be the name of the Lord From this time forth and forevermore!
3 From the rising of the sun to its going down the Lord’s name is to be praised. —Psalms 113:1 - 3

6. The messiness of the cross brings the miracle of being made whole.

14 So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.
17  So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
18  Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” —Luke 17:14, 17 - 18

13  And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,
14  having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
15  Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. —Colossians 2:13 - 15

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. —2 Corinthians 5:21
