Doers of the Word and not just hearers.
By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. —2 Peter 1:3-4
Everything with God builds precept upon precept, or step by step.
In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance,
—2 Peter 1:5-6
Discussion Part 1
What is self-control, what does that mean?
Why is it important?
How do we get it?
Self-control is about controlling your thoughts, it’s controlling your mind.
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. —2 CORINTHIANS 10:3-5
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing
—ROMANS 12:2
Discussion Part 2
When he says, add to self-control, patient endurance, What do you think that is?
How would you describe that?
How do we get it?
Patient endurance means to trust in God’s timing!
“Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” —John 11:40
