A Perfect Storm 11.1.20

The Lord sits

over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever. —Psalm 29:10

22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea,

by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”
28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.” —Matthew 14:22-31

• They were struggling

the of God, not outside of it.
• Rest assured, when Jesus sends you, He’ll make a for you to get there!

48 Then He saw them

at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by.
51 Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind ceased. And they were greatly amazed in themselves beyond measure, and . —Mark 6:48, 51

• Straining -

, tested to be stressed or distressed; harassed.
• Jesus came walking in on top of the situation they were struggling with.
• Peter perceived that this revelation was an to walk with Jesus in a new way.

16 Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them. 18 Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing. 19 So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid. 20 But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” 21 Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and

the boat was at the land where they were going. —John 6:16-21

When Jesus entered the boat:
Several things happened when the disciples willingly received Jesus into the boat:

a) The wind completely

.
b) They . They were greatly amazed beyond measure, ie. Their minds were blown.
c) The Jesus, saying “Truly you are the son of God.
d) Immediately they arrived at their . Immediately they reached the shore toward which they had been slowly making their way.

  1. Jesus in the midst of the storm.

• We need the

of Ezekiel – Lord, I’m waiting on you! I know you’re in this.
• We need the of Peter – Lord, help me to walk with you in the middle of all of this craziness!
• We need the of the disciples – Lord, we welcome you into boat. Everything feels chaotic, but Your heart is our home! King of glory, we welcome you. Everything we need is in your Presence.

2) Let

awake within your heart again!

For they had not understood about the loaves, because their heart was

3)

is a now thing, not a later thing.

• The hour has come and now is, for the true worshippers to

the Father in Spirit and in truth.
• While the disciples wondered and worshipped, Jesus did in one what they couldn’t do all . Immediately they arrived at other side.

Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will

[perfect] it until the day of Jesus Christ; —Phil 1:6

• There’s a supernatural

for the church in this hour.

16 So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
—2 Corinthians 5:16-17
