Message Notes:
1. Foretold - It Is Not A Coincidence…
2. Making Room – No Lodging
3. He Is Here With Us - Emmanuel
4. The Greatest Gift - Christmas Eve
Luke 2:7
She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them. NLT
Main Idea:
We make room for what matters most…
When Jesus really matters to us … We will make room for him.
Luke 2:1-7
2 At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire. 2 (This was the first census taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 All returned to their own ancestral towns to register for this census. 4 And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. 5 He took with him Mary, to whom he was engaged, who was now expecting a child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. 7 She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them. NLT
There was a massive shuffling of people.
Luke used the Greek word Katáluma – which translates “Guest Room”. Since places to rent were most likely highly limited, most people likely tried to stay with family from their ancestral town.
We don’t know exactly why there wasn’t room for them…but what we do know is that the savior wasn’t born with the respect and dignity a king deserved.
We can all also come up with a million reasons why we don’t have room for Jesus in our life today.
But at the end of the day…we have to choose to make room for him, even if it requires the sacrifice of other things.
Main Idea:
When we make room for what matters most…
When Jesus really matters to us … We will make room for Him
TAKE HOME:
Following Christ means putting God first in every area of your life.
A Total Surrender
Matthew 16:24-26
24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life, will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? ESV
How do we let Christ have every room in our life?
1. Recognize that full and total surrender is the expectation and norm of a disciple of Christ.
2. Debunk the theory that God is ok with you at least giving him a small part of your life.
Revelation 3:15-16
15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. NIV
3. Mentally give God everything…literally surrender every part of your life.
- Garage – Work / Hobbies
- Living Room – Leisure / Entertainment
- Dining Room – Community
- Kitchen – Provision / Health
- Bathroom – Self image – Help you dealing with your crap…
- Bedroom – Marriages
