Time to rebuild 3

Nehemiah 2.10-20
10 When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard about this, they were very much disturbed that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites.
Nehemiah Inspects Jerusalem’s Walls
11 I went to Jerusalem, and after staying there three days
12 I set out during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. There were no mounts with me except the one I was riding on.
13 By night I went out through the Valley Gate toward the Jackal a Well and the Dung Gate, examining the walls of Jerusalem, which had been broken down, and its gates, which had been destroyed by fire.
14 Then I moved on toward the Fountain Gate and the King’s Pool, but there was not enough room for my mount to get through;
15 so I went up the valley by night, examining the wall. Finally, I turned back and reentered through the Valley Gate.
16 The officials did not know where I had gone or what I was doing, because as yet I had said nothing to the Jews or the priests or nobles or officials or any others who would be doing the work.
17 Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.”
18 I also told them about the gracious hand of my God on me and what the king had said to me.
They replied, “Let us start rebuilding.” So they began this good work.
19 But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official and Geshem the Arab heard about it, they mocked and ridiculed us. “What is this you are doing?” they asked. “Are you rebelling against the king?”
20 I answered them by saying, “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.”

V 11-12 Be careful who you share your plans and dreams with.

Satan will use people around you to discourage from walking in your destiny.

Nehemiah takes his time as he plans, observes, and calculates.

For Nehemiah, trusting in God’s plan and being commissioned for this work by God does not mean that he is to begin work the moment he arrives in Jerusalem.

Once God reveals his plan you must take inventory and count the cost.

Luke 14.27-33
27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?
29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you,
30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?
32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.
33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.

Anything significant in your life will come at a cost.

verse 16. Nehemiah knew that God would lead him to action when action was needed.

God’s plan for your life will always connect you to his people.

The end of verse 18 says, “And they said, ‘Let us rise up and build.’” The Lord used Nehemiah to unite the people and to bring them together for the cause.

Nehemiah explained well.
He communicated effectively.
He gave a tangible vision for the people.
And they began to work.

When opposition comes, Nehemiah proclaims the authority for the work being done is given by the God of Heaven.

They will not be set back or discouraged.
Their task will not be thwarted because their God has set the plan in motion and nothing can stop what He begins.
Therefore, the people of Jerusalem will rise up and rebuild what has been destroyed. Their season without protection is over. Their walls and gates will be rebuilt. Their God is for them and will complete His work.
Its not your authority that will rally people.
