  1. Transformed (metamorphosis) describes a change from within. The world wants to change our mind, so it exerts pressure from the outside. But God wants to transform our life from within by the renewing of our mind.

2. God’s goal for each of us would be that we would be transformed to the very image of Jesus.

Philippians 2:12-13 - Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed — not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence — continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

Romans 12:1-2 - Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.

3. Renewal of mind is a two part process. It is taking the old and on the new.

4. Biblical command apart from biblical thinking results in short term obedience and long-term frustration.

Colossians 3:8-10 - But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
