YOU CAN'T SEE HIM, BUT HE SEES YOU
Part of Empty Tomb to Upper Room

1. We when we are so !

Luk 24:13 That same day two of Jesus’ followers were walking to the village of Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem. —NLT

  • No longer following Jesus (Didn’t know what to do so they quit the team).
  • 7 in the bible = completion
  • When we are going “From” Jerusalem and we should be going “TO”
  • Trauma will push you to go the wrong way.
  • When you can’t see him, you STAND you don’t walk away.

Eph 6:13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
Eph 6:14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. —NLT

Luk 24:14 As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened.
Luk 24:15 As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them. —NLT

2. They werent looking for but Jesus was looking for .

  • Jesus doesn’t just reveal himself to famous apostles.

  • He came to seek and to save

Luk 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” —NLT

  • It doesn’t matter what road you are on today, Jesus can find you!

3. He is us even though we can’t Him.

Luk 24:16 But God kept them from recognizing him. —NLT
Luk 24:17 He asked them, “What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?”They stopped short, sadness written across their faces. —NLT

  • He knew they were sad and that they didn’t need to be. (it’s okay not to be ok, but it’s not ok to stay that way)
  • Jesus moves with compassion

Luk 24:18 Then one of them, Cleopas, replied, “You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn’t heard about all the things that have happened there the last few days.”
Luk 24:19 “What things?” Jesus asked. “The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth,” they said. “He was a prophet who did powerful miracles, and he was a mighty teacher in the eyes of God and all the people. —NLT

  • Jesus asked them a question even though He knew the answer. He knows the thoughts and intentions of our hearts, and still loves it when we speak it out in our own words.

4. Those who in the Lord will never .

Luk 24:20 But our leading priests and other religious leaders handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him.
Luk 24:21 We had hoped he was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. This all happened three days ago.
Luk 24:22 “Then some women from our group of his followers were at his tomb early this morning, and they came back with an amazing report.
Luk 24:23 They said his body was missing, and they had seen angels who told them Jesus is alive!
Luk 24:24 Some of our men ran out to see, and sure enough, his body was gone, just as the women had said.” —NLT

  • Resurrection was not on their radar
  • The men explained what they did know about Jesus.

  • They knew Peter and John had seen the grave clothes but they still didn’t believe because THEY didn’t see.

Jesus wanted to know from them what He wants to know from us today: can we believe without seeing with our own eyes? We can believe and must believe based on the reliable eyewitness testimony of other people. —Guzik

Jer 17:5 This is what the LORD says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the LORD.
Jer 17:6 They are like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future. They will live in the barren wilderness, in an uninhabited salty land.
Jer 17:7 “But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence.
Jer 17:8 They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit. —NLT

5. The problem is in our NOT our .

Luk 24:25 Then Jesus said to them, “You foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures.
Luk 24:26 Wasn’t it clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before entering his glory?”
Luk 24:27 Then Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. —NLT

  • ALL scripture.

6. Jesus is not going to Himself on us. We need to Him in.

Luk 24:28 By this time they were nearing Emmaus and the end of their journey. Jesus acted as if he were going on,
Luk 24:29 but they begged him, “Stay the night with us, since it is getting late.” So he went home with them. —NLT

  • invite Him into your heart today!
  • invite Him into your situation.

Rev 3:20 “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. —NLT

  • They saw him break bread and their eyes were opened.

Luk 24:30 As they sat down to eat, he took the bread and blessed it. Then he broke it and gave it to them.
Luk 24:31 Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And at that moment he disappeared! —NLT

  • They recognised him, and then he vanished.

7. When we hear His , our hearts will .

Luk 24:32 They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”
Luk 24:33 And within the hour they were on their way back to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven disciples and the others who had gathered with them,
Luk 24:34 who said, “The Lord has really risen! He appeared to Peter.”
Luk 24:35 Then the two from Emmaus told their story of how Jesus had appeared to them as they were walking along the road, and how they had recognized him as he was breaking the bread. —NLT

  • Faith comes by hearing, not seeing.
  • The word of God should burn on it’s way down.

—NLT

Seven miles of sadness and confusion become seven miles of joy and anticipation.

  • It’s time to walk it back! It’s a NEW DAY!
  • The EMPTY tomb is in Jerusalem, not in Emmaus
