Main Idea:
Does life have purpose?

Check-In (Highs & Lows) 15 min
Take turns quickly sharing the “highs & lows” of your week. High: What was your biggest highlight since we last met? Low: What was the low point during this time?

Settle-In (Ice-Breaker) 10 min
Share with the group about a time you had a purpose that made you feel fulfilled.

Dig-In (Scripture) 35 min
1. Read Ecclesiastes 2:1-11. In this passage, what is the result when this “teacher” indulges earthly pleasures? How has this played out in your life, and what was the result?

2. Read Ecclesiastes 3:11-14. This teacher goes from diving into all of the things “under the heavens” to being oriented towards God. What is the heart shift that takes place?

3. How does posturing your heart towards God help you when you are tempted to find purpose in things of the world?

4. Read Matthew 22:37-40 and 28:19. How can these verses serve as guides as we step into the purpose God has for us?

5. Read Philippians 1:19-21. Paul writes this as he is on house arrest. He understands his purpose and exalts Christ despite his circumstances. How can you exalt Christ and walk in his purpose for you in the midst of difficult times?

6. How have you done this in the past?

Gear-Up (Application) 15 min
1. How does looking to God through prayer, his Word, and community help us find his purpose for our lives?

2. Where you spend your time and your resources tells a lot about what you are living life for. If you were to be honest, what does your time and resources point to?

3. In what ways are you finding purpose in where God has you?

Step-Up (Homework)
The Westminster Catechism says the chief purpose of mankind is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. What is one step you could take to live that out more?
