Luke 13:1–9 (NLT)

“The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!” Mark 1:15b

“Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.” Revelation 3:19 (ESV)

23 and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. 24 And he called out, “Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.” 30 And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’Luke 16:23-24, 30 (NLT)

“Metanoia” = The combination of two words:

As he reasoned with them about righteousness and self-control and the coming day of judgment, Felix became frightened. “Go away for now,” he replied. “When it is more convenient, I’ll call for you again.” Acts 24:25

Three important issues concerning repentance.

• Repentance Is More Than

Five confessions of sin that will not save.

1.- A

confession (Exodus 9:22-27; 34)

27 Then Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron. “This time I have sinned,” he confessed. “The Lord is the righteous one, and my people and I are wrong. 28 Please beg the Lord to end this terrifying thunder and hail. We’ve had enough. I will let you go; you don’t need to stay any longer.” Exodus 9:27–28 (NLT)

But when Pharaoh saw that the rain, hail, and thunder had stopped, he and his officials sinned again, and Pharaoh again became stubborn. Exodus 9:34 (NLT)

2.- A

confession (Numbers 22:34)

34 Then Balaam confessed to the angel of the Lord, “I have sinned. I didn’t realize you were standing in the road to block my way. I will return home if you are against my going.” Numbers 22:34 (NLT)

Balaam was known for having the

of an angel, but the of a devil.

3.- A

confession (1 Samuel 15:24-27; 13-15)

The problem with disobedience is that we have no right to

or when it comes to the Lord’s commands.

4.- A

confession (Joshua 7:20, 25; Proverbs 28:13; Romans 14:11-12)

5.- A

confession (Matthew 27:3-4)

“For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.” 2 Corinthians 7:10

Judas experienced

sorrow that leads to eternal destruction, but not sorrow that leads to eternal life.

= Change the way you think about sin, about yourself, and about God.

= Continually acting on the changes brought about by new way of thinking.

The Bottom Line: True repentance always leads to

that manifests itself by changes! Therefore: No = No !

“Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. 10 So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.” 1 John 3:9–10 (NLT)
