Week Four: Confession & Repentance
INTRODUCTION
In CrossFit Week Four, Pastor Cory talks about confession and repentance. These two concepts are central in a thriving relationship with God through Jesus. Confession & Repentance are two important keys to maintaining a healthy soul and meant to be experienced with the power of the Holy Spirit.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- What does the word “confession” mean to you? How have you experienced confession in your life and what was its impact on you?
- Pastor Cory talks about how sin is a weight that your soul was never meant to carry and that confession is what lifts the weight off. Does this idea make you look at confession differently?
- Have someone read Psalm 32:1-5 to the group. These verses talk about the gift of confession and forgiveness. When have you received forgiveness and how did it impact your life?
MOVING FORWARD
Confession is a powerful concept that is meant to be a regular part of our life with God. Driven by love, Jesus took the full weight of sin and punishment on himself on the cross. He carried that which we were never meant to carry and offers full forgiveness to all who put their trust in him. His forgiveness sets us free and his love inspires us to choose a new way of living. Confession and repentance is not a one-time offer from Jesus, it is a lifestyle of receiving God’s love. Is there some stuff you need to leave at the Cross? Is there a secret you need to speak to someone? You are called to be free, God’s intention for you is freedom. This week, take some time to do a “soul-check” and ask the Holy Spirit to show you what you need to do.
CHANGING YOUR MIND
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. —https://my.bible.com/bible/111/JAS.5.16
