November 13, 2022

  • Thankfulness, or gratitude is an attitude that should our lives.

6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and

with thankfulness. —Colossians 2:6-7 NIV

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with

, let your requests be made known to God; —Philippians 4:6

  • Your circumstances do not have to for you to become more grateful. But gratitude can elevate you in the midst of your circumstances.
  • Gratitude is not just a response to good things, but it’s a of negative things that can get into your life and heart.
  • Always remember, one of the greatest weapons in your arsenal is gratitude.

1. Gratitude one of the most powerful in the Kingdom of God.

  • Gratitude starts as an action, and it becomes an attitude.

Enter into His gates with

,
And into His courts with praise.
thankful to Him, and bless His name. —Psalm 100:4

  • This verse and many others in scripture describe a state of mind and a posture of heart that are .

But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel. —Psalm 22:3

a. Gratitude is connected to a Spirit-

life.

18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks

for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, —Ephesians 5:18-20

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving

to God the Father through Him. —Colossians 3:15-16

b. Gratitude changes our

.

although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. —Romans 1:21
Gratitude does the opposite. Gratitude gives you new

to see everything God is doing around you and in others, while ingratitude blinds you to it.

2. Gratitude is a .

in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. —1 Thessalonians 5:18

  • Life is not all blessing, or all problems. You get to

    what you will focus on.

  • people can find something to complain about in the midst of every blessing. people can find something to thank God for in the midst of every problem. Decide what you will be.

  • Complaining and gratitude are both

    .

  • Complaining is a magnet that

more problems to complain about. That’s why complaining has the unique power to makes things worse, because it’s attracting the negative.

  • Gratitude is a magnet that attracts for more breakthroughs to celebrate. It’s a magnet for more of God’s provision and goodness, and it has a

    affect. It leads to abundance.

23 And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. 24 Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. 25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. —Acts 16:23-26

  • Rather than to allowing their circumstance to define God, they let the goodness of God their circumstance.

3. Gratitude is the path to .

> 11 Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. 13 And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
> 14 So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.
> 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was

, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God,16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.

17 So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you

.” —Luke 17:11-19

As His heart was filled with gratitude, the healed Samaritan did several things:

a) He

back – this is repentance, a turn around of the life. Repentance and life transformation demonstrates gratitude.

b) With a loud voice he

God – Praise and testimony. One that is grateful will testify of God’s goodness.

c) He fell down on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him

– worship and life surrender. The first person he came into close proximity with after being healed was Jesus.

  • Need can bring us to a

in his Presence. Gratitude causes us to in His Presence.

  • That’s why gratitude God moves us into wholeness – emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical wholeness.
