Message Notes

Jesus is incredible, and He’s worth following with your whole life.

“And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.” —Mark 9:2

Why did Jesus take His disciples up a mountain?

  • He wanted to spend time with them.

  • He wanted them to know how much they were loved.

  • He wanted to show them that He was all they needed in this life.

  • And He wanted to prepare them for the future.

  • He wanted to settle their doubts about who He was.

  • He wanted to reveal His glory to them.

Glory – majesty, greatness, power, grandeur, prestige, splendor, magnificence, and beauty.

How did Jesus reveal His glory to His disciples?

  • He transfigured Himself.

Transfiguration – a complete change of form or appearance into a more beautiful or spiritual state.

“And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.” —Mark 9:3-4

“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day, they continue to speak; night after night, they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.” —Psalms 19:1-4

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” —Romans 10:9

How did God the Father affirm His Son, Jesus?

“And Peter said to Jesus, ‘Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.’ For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, ‘This is my beloved Son; listen to him.’” —Mark 9:5-7

“And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only. And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.  So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead might mean. And they asked him, ‘Why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?’  And he said to them, ‘Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt? But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.’” —Mark 9:8-13

How does Jesus reveal His glory to us every day?

“When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands. And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest. His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, ‘Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.’” —Revelation 1:12-18

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” —1 Peter 5:7

“Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.” —Psalms 55:22
