Peter sets out to answers our deepest needs:
1. Something to believe in;
2. Someone to love;
3. Something worthy to do.
We pick up in the middle of a thought centered around stones. This is special because Jesus told Peter that He was the chief corner stone and that Peter would build upon that stone. Peter actually means stone, or rock.
Back to our thought and to answer the deepest needs we have. This morning we are going to answer the first one, and then tonight we will answer the second two.
What is the greatest something to believe in and why?
We begin with a Sunday School answer and then look at the evidence Peter provides for us in tihs passage.
Jesus is the ultimate Person to believe in.
Just look how Peter describes Him.
- He is the living Stone. This refers to His life, His death, and His resurrection. John 10:10; 3:16.
- He is he chosen Stone. This was set in stone long before the world ever existed. Genesis 3:15.
- He is the precious Stone. God spoke over Jesus and said, This is My Son in Whom I AM well pleased.
- He is the Cornerstone. The building can only withstands the storms of life based on its foundation, the cornerstone.
- He is the Stumbling Stone. The key word here is rejected. It is used twice in these verses. It means to examine thoroughly, and reject.
Here is a truth for each of us: What you decide to do about Jesus in this life will determine what Jesus will grant in eternity.
If you choose to live without Jesus, then He will grant that desire.
If you choose to yield to Jesus, surrendering your life to Him, you will never be without Him.
But it is your choice to make this morning. So what decision will you make.
