The Year of Following Jesus #14 "Exalted Among Men""

Our Text…
Luke 16:14-17
  “The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him.  And he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God. “The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it. But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.”

Q: And what’s the issue?
A: they loved

!

POINT: Folks we are completely capable of

!

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” - 1 John 1:9

Q: Did you notice “who” does the deceiving?
A: It’s

!

  • “Justify” - “to be in a right relationship…”

“Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world” - John 1:29!
“Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain!” - Psalm 119:36

POINT: A person that does not love Him with “all your heart, soul, mind and strength” - Deuteronomy 6:4…

Will inevitably have other

.

This is why Jesus says…
“where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” - Luke 12:34

  • ”Ridicule” - “turn up your nose at”

The “Tricky Part”…
“The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it.” - v.16

POINT: God’s Law is

!

“Therefore, behold, I will …. speak tenderly to her.” - Hosea 2:14
