[1] THE WONDER OF JESUS’ RESURRECTION

MATTHEW 28:1-10 “1 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4 And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. 5 But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” 8 So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

  • THE WONDER AND SIGNIFICANCE OF JESUS’ RESURRECTION PROVED WHO HE IS AND THE POWER HE HAS!

  • FURTHER, THE WONDER AND SIGNIFICANCE OF HIS RESURRECTION IS THAT IT PROVES HIS WORD AS TRUE AND SALVATION IS ASSURED FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE!

  • IN POINTING OUT THAT JESUS HAS POWER AND AUTHORITY OVER DEATH, HELL AND THE GRAVE, CONSIDER THE SIGNIFICANCE AND WONDER OF JESUS RAISING LAZARUS…

[2] THE WONDER OF JESUS RAISING LAZARUS

JOHN 11:11 “11 After saying these things, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.””

JOHN 11:14-15 “14 Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus has died, 15 and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.””

JOHN 11:25-27 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”

JOHN 11:43-44 “43 When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” 44 The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.””

  • WHAT’S SO SIGNIFICANT ABOUT THE RESURRECTION OF LAZARUS?

[3] THE VERY SAME POWER

SALVATION:

1 PETER 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”

PSALM 103:10-13 “10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. 13 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.”

1 JOHN 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

MADE NEW:

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

EMPOWERED BY HIS SPIRIT:

ROMANS 8:11 “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”
