The Motivation to GO

Matthew 28:18-20

The motivation for why Jesus died for us was because WE COULDN’T DIE FOR OURSELVES! We GO because Jesus made a way for us, and we want to share that way with everyone. We want to give everyone a chance to know Jesus as we do.

US MILITARY - WHY DID, WHY DO THEY GO?

Why Did They Go? Why Do They Go? What is the main reason behind why they go in the first place?

WHY DID JESUS GO TO CALVARY?

People throughout time have asked a similar question about Jesus Christ. Why did Jesus have to die? Why did Jesus go to Calvary?

If you are wondering what is at the heart of WHY those men and women gave their lives, if you dig down far enough, you will find the reason. They desired freedom for those who couldn’t fight for themselves!

3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. —Isaiah 53:3-7 (KJV)

5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die.
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!
10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—
13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law.
14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.
15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! —Romans 5:5-15 (NIV)

God’s love is displayed by His degree of sacrifice in saving us from the outcome of our sins.

His sacrifice on Calvary for us, His death was ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY! WHY – Simply put, because we couldn’t SAVE OURSELVES!

HEROES GO – BECAUSE OTHERS CAN’T DO IT ALONE!!

It was for a hope that a people yet unborn would know about living life abundantly!

10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. —John 10:10 (ESV)

JESUS Paid What We Couldn’t

We weren’t just strangers to God when he died for us. The Bible says, “while we were enemies” (Romans 5:10), Jesus performed the greatest act of love towards us by dying on the cross.

Here is a touching story of a son wishing to buy the police cruiser his father drove before his untimely death. At the auction, the bidding quickly got out of the son’s budget, and he thought he had lost it because he couldn’t pay the price.

But WATCH WHAT HAPPENS!! – Son of fallen sheriff’s deputy given dad’s squad car by generous stranger

When the winner of the auction claimed his prize, he immediately handed the keys over to the son. Even though he was a stranger, he had bought the car for the boy.

WE SHOW GRATITUDE

We should show our appreciation to the Military this weekend, and we should show our gratitude to Jesus daily. Honor the Military by living freely with respect and dignity for yourself and for the other citizens of our country.

How do you show gratitude to Jesus? You receive and activate the precious gift He has made available to you. (Acts 2:38)

Through Repentance – turning from the things in your life you know are displeasing to God, and surrendering your life to Him completely.

Through Baptism in Jesus’ Name – as you are baptized in the water by immersion in the name of Jesus, all of your sins are washed away, never to be remembered or held against you by God.

Through Receiving God’s Spirit – Jesus wants to fill you with His Spirit that when you receive – you will speak in a language you never learned in school as God empowers you to do so. The peace, love, and joy of God will flood into your life like never before.

THE MOTIVATION TO GO

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. —Matthew 28:18-20 (KJV)

Medal Of Honor Picture

WE NEED SOME HEROES

Author Tod Lindberg in his book “The Heroic Heart: Greatness Ancient and Modern” – September 8, 2015, uses the history of the Medal of Honor to demonstrate the evolution of heroism. From the Civil War to the present day, the reasons cited for the medal being awarded shifted from praising an individual for the number of lives they took, to praising them for the number of lives they saved.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. —Romans 5:8 (King James Version)

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. —John 15:13 (King James Version)

WE GO, because…

  • Jesus was willing to GO to Calvary for us
  • Our Military Men and Women gave their lives so we could freely worship Jesus and tell others about our faith.
  • People are lost and without hope. Without God in their lives – they will face an eternity in Hell!
  • Our family, our friends, and those we have contact with every day are in need of what God has done in us!
  • He first loved us and gave Himself for us…We didn’t deserve it or earn it, but He was willing to GO for us!
  • We don’t want to see anyone perish.

WHAT CAN YOU DO THIS WEEK?

  • Tell someone your testimony, about how good God has been to you.
  • Share a message or thought with someone that has blessed you lately.
  • Send a link (of message or song) to someone with a short text after you have prayed for them.
  • Call someone you are praying for and invite them to come to a service or event with you that is upcoming.
  • Write an email, card, or letter to a few people and share your love for them and let them know you are praying for them.
