1 Peter 3:18-22 Sermon Notes
September 25, 2022
Many people have wondered why was Jesus’s death truly necessary. This morning, in a passage that is among the most difficult in the New Testament, we find the simpliest of answers to this diffiuclt question.
- He begins with the reason why.
a. He was just, but suffered for the unjust.
b. He suffered for our sins.
c. He suffered once. This indicates the uniqueness of Christ’s work as something that does not and cannot be repeated. - He continues with how Jesus accomplished this task.
a. He was put to death;
b. But was raised to life in the Spirit.
c. There is no greater picture of this truth than the empty tomb.
d. If this was so, then why would the enemies of Jesus allow this to happen? 1 Corinthians 2:7-8.
e. How can we be sure that Jesus rose from the dead, besides the empty tomb? 1 Corinthians 15:3-8. - He ends with who Jesus truly is. Verse 22 explains this answer to us. Jesus Christ is the KING of Kings, and LORD of Lords. All people, authorities, and powers have been placed under His authority.
Since He is the only KING, He set forth only one way, one path, one road that leads back to Him, His way. It is simply put:
1. Repentance.
2. Faith.
3. Commitment.
If you are already a believer, then I want you to think about the price Jesus paid for you. He gave His all. Are you giving your all to Jesus today? If not, then let today be the day that everything changes.
