20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21 We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.
Ephesians 2:20-21 NLT

I. … because the church isn’t an organization, it’s an organism

1 Peter 2:4-5

  1. Organizations are about a product, a church is about a person (v.4)

There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:28 NLT

For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.
Ephesians 2:14 NLT

  1. Organizations are about self-preservation, churches are about

If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.
Matthew 10:39 NLT

II. … because the church isn’t in step with the times, it’s in step with the truth

I Peter 2:8

  1. The church is

Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
Matthew 16:18 NLT

  1. The church is

You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
Matthew 5:14 NLT

104 Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life. 105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
Psalm 119:104-105 NLT

III. … because the church doesn’t have a mission, the mission has a church

  1. Our mission proceeds from right

    (1 Peter 2:10)

  2. Our mission succeeds through right

    (1 Peter 2:9)

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
Ephesians 1:5 NLT
