Genesis 2

God loves to

.

“Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” —Genesis 2:7

We have a God who is not afraid to get his hands

.

“So on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done”. —Genesis 2:2b-3

God doesn’t rest because He is tired.
God’s rest is about

all that He has done.

“Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.” —Genesis 2:8

God is a

.

“The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and care for it.” —Genesis 2:15

God invites us to come and work

him.

“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” —Genesis 1:2

God took the raw material of the Universe and

a world for us to live in.

God invites those that bear his image to

him in this work.

“Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.” —Genesis 1:28

  1. Look

    at what you were made to do.

    “We have different gifts according to the grace given to each of us.” —Romans 12:6

  2. Look out for what people need.

  3. Look up and understand how it all fits with what God is doing.

    “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” —Genesis 2:2-3

We need

“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.” —Hebrews 4:9-10

Discussion Questions

Thesis- We have a God who loves to work and created us in His image to find fulfillment in our work. We find that fulfillment when we look in at that we have been created to do, look out for ways to serve people, and look up to see how God uses our work to build His kingdom.

Questions
1. What is the most difficult job you have ever done? What job has brought you the greatest fulfillment?
2. Read Colossians 3:23- What difference would it make in your work if it was the Lord rather than human employers that you worked for?
3. As you look in at yourself, what do you love to do?
4. As you look out at people what are the greatest needs that people have?
5. As you look up what do you see God doing in the world around you?
6. Read Ephesians 2:8-10- What is the relationship between faith and works in the
Christian life?
