Part of Summer Heat
August 20, 2023

At the core of Gods heart is a desire, command and rhythm for His people to experience, value and learn thee way of TRUE Rest as a way of life and worship.

Exodus 20:8-11 ESV
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Sabbath; “to stop”, “to delight.”

*The Sabbath is Blessed *

The Sabbath is designed to fill our souls up, to enjoy more life.

The Sabbath is Holy.
It is Set Apart and intended to Help You connect with your creator.

God commanded rest for his people as a form of worship not as a last resort to avoid burnout.

Genesis 2:2-3 ESV
2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

Why did God Rest?

He was Finished.
He is content with creation and there is nothing more to be done.

God Finishing the work had more to do with Him being content with what He had done, vs stopping short of His unmet desires because He was at His limit.

Understanding desire.
Desire can easily become twisted when the things we desire drive us to no longer be in control of How our desires are expressed.

Anytime unlimited desires is fulfilled by limited vessels the result with be restlessness.

Psalm 37:4 ESV
Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

He Established a Rhythm to run.

Most of humanity only rests well when they can’t run well anymore.

Hebrews 4:9-12 ESV
9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Honoring the Sabbath in our lives.

1- Remember the Rhythm.

2- Learn to STOP and WORSHIP.
What would cause me to be full of wonder, awe, gratitude, and praise?”
