“SPIRITUAL LAZINESS”

Scripture: Hebrews 6:12 (NIV)

 INTRO: The thesis of the Book of Hebrews is that Jesus Christ was in fact the Messiah. The Jews were getting weak in their faith and were starting to look back, instead of going forward. So, the Hebrew writer gives them several warnings:

 -Ch. 2:1 “do not drift away”

 -Ch. 2:3 “do not ignore”

 -Ch. 3:8 “do not harden your hearts”

 -Ch. 4:1 “do not fall short”

 -Ch. 5:11-13 “do not live on milk”

 -Ch. 6:1 “let us leave the elementary teaching and go on to maturity”

 -Ch. 6:12 “we do not want you to become lazy”


  WORD STUDY: LAZY

 -indolent: habitually

 -slothful: utter

 -lacking in zeal: no

 -indifferent: could care

 -negligent: failure to perform your

 -sluggish:

moving or inactive

 -dull: lacking

or

  FOUR RESULTS OF BEING SPIRITUALLY LAZY (DULL)

 You can’t handle

food (Hebrews 5:11-13)

 You can’t tell

from evil (Hebrews 5:14)

 You forget we have a Great High

(Hebrews 4:14-16)

 You lose sight of the

line (Hebrews 12:1-3)


CLOSE: Dear Jesus, please help me not to become dull and lazy. Renew & rekindle the fire in my heart today. I want to be a passionate follower of Christ that can handle the meat of the Word of God, that knows right from wrong, that understands we do have a Great High Priest that we can go to with confidence and boldness, and Lord Jesus…I pray that I will never lose sight of our Heavenly goal. I want to finish strong…I want to finish well…in the STRONG NAME OF JESUS we pray…Amen!
